Dr. Turnblom has over fifteen years of leadership experience in high level positions on the Boards of professional, academic, and religious organizations. In addition, he has over twenty-nine years of industrial management experience, in new business development, strategic alliance formation, business strategy development, and R&D management with proven, direct translation to non-profit activities. He is a collaborative, influential leader adept at transforming organizations, both strategically and operationally, using a consensus-based approach.
Additional Accomplishments - Associations & Boards
CDMA (Commercial Development and Marketing Association)
• Grew CDMA’s financial reserves to nearly 1.25 times annual operating expenses.
• Spearheaded the initiative to seek and hire a new association management firm for the CDMA.
• Recipient of CDMA’s outstanding service award four times in ten years.
Asbury First United Methodist Church (AFUMC), a $20M/2200+ member church
• As Chair of the Master Plan Implementation Committee, developed a $7M consensus-based Master Plan through a customized process, and obtained congregational approval of the Master Plan.
• Obtained the Church’s commitment to implement Phase I of the Master Plan ($3.7M), starting in 2003.
• Established the Capital Improvement Fund to support major maintenance programs at AFUMC and secured annual contributions to this fund from the annual operating plan.
• Established processes to enable AFUMC’s annual operating plans to generate modest surpluses after years of deficits.
• Grew the Endowment Funds of AFUMC by 85% (in the mid-1990s), and established a disciplined approach to funding the annual operating plan from endowment earnings.
